What type of transfer case, front diff., and rear diff. does the 1 gen X have?  If we wanted to upgrade these parts, where do we start?  Are there any parts that should be replaced by 200k mi.?  Also, what type of oil should we be using for a rear LSD diff.?  The label says "use LSD oil only".  It seems like regular GL-5 gear oil is not it, right?

The t-case and diffs are tough units, not really much you need to do there unless you like peeing away money without much gain.  The rear axle actually is reputed to be somewhere between a D44 and D60 -- it's actually the same axle they put in Nissan duallys and work trucks in other markets.

For the diffs, lockers are really the only upgrade, and gears if you want a deeper ratio.

You can get crawler gears for the t-case.

Don't use GL5.  The diffs take gear oil; get a tube of LSD additive from any parts store and add it to the oil.

In the t-case, GL5 is no good either.  It doesn't have some of the stuff necessary to keep the soft metal parts happy.  There is the factory stuff, called Nissan Matic D, or I've had real good luck with Amsoil GL4.

Hope this helps.

If you are looking at upgrading, look into the manual locking front hubs.  I had two intances when the front hubs automatically unlocked when I put the truck in reverse.  In the sand, towing a single axle trailer, and with limited horsepower this can be an issue.

Calmini has new Warn hubs.  The only limitation is that you actually have to get out of the truck and lock the hubs yourself.

You can get those hubs from a bunch of places.  The bolts they provide suck, though, and should be replaced with stronger ones.

Nissan Matic D is their name for the trans/T-case fluid they use from the factory.

MY X is the Same year and I have the D44. I cant speak for what McGuiver Bobby was speaking of in reguards to the lubricant other then AMSOIL makes good stuff.

Also there is alot of info out there on the stud issue Bobby was speaking of. I have heard of some people not realizing the issues and losing studds completely. One guy in this lcub lost his hub on a trail he said.
