for off-road purposes, trail runs, etc., do we disconnect/remove the sway bars or leave them on?

I remember when i first joined the board i was a bit nervice taking a stock vehical out on the trails.
Turns out the X does just fine
remove the mud flaps and runnung boards and you will be fine
If you get stuck someone will pull you out if you alone start time to dig and move rocks around

i am still at stock height and gone up and down hills i would have never thought possible

Its sound like you have the same questions i had and still have
if money is an issue take baby steps
tires
sliders

Remove the rear bar and chuck it; it doesn't really do much.  If you're driving the X fast enough to try and need it, you need to slow down.

Leave the front bar on.  In most cases, we don't have enough travel to warrant removing it and pulling it off dramatically reduces on-road handling.  I tried it once and while it was okay when driving normally, with any weight on the roof it felt like the truck was going to roll.

I second this as I havent had a  Rear Sway for over fours years. I can notice it sometimes when loaded on a curvy road like on the way to Lockwood , but I just slow down. The front is bad news as I found it becomes unstable to drive

But do I disconnect the rear for the trail runs or just chuck it altogether?

You can remove it entirely.
