Arch'sX and I headed up to Sedona for the 1st Annual CANVAZ (California, Nevada, Arizona) Xcursion.  This was a fun event, everyone camped, wheeled, and shared great conversation over the campfire.  All in all, a great time.

Looks like you all had a fun time John. I need to get back up that way and explore more of the area. All I've seen of it so far is the Schnebley Hill Road part.

One question though - how did you manage to get so hung up so badly on that rock in the second to the last picture?   Grin

Hi Frank.  We actually camped on the east end of Schnebly Road, near the I-17 off ramp, at about 6800' of elevation.  It was cold!  We ran several trails, Broken Arrow, Chicken Point (on Broken Arrow), Greasy Spoon, Soldier's Pass, and Smiley Rock.  Fun stuff, and fantastic views.

The picture of the X on the rock was taken on Greasy Spoon, the most technical part of the trail.  Ted (in the picture to my left) said over the CB that there was a great rock for "posing" photos, and so I drove up on to without a spotter until I heard a "clunk" and the pass. side dropped down.  I stopped there.  Grin

It was an easy back down, but quite exciting to have the X about 4 feet in the air up on the rock.  Smiley

Looks like a fun time. Was this a private event? I don't remember ever seeing anything about this being advertised.

Nope, not private.  I apologize for not listing it over here, it was mostly up on thenewx.  My bad.

We will be running this event again in 2012 in Johnson Valley and I promise to post updates here.

The idea was to have a rotating event each year, in one of the three states represented in the name:  CA:  California  NV:  Nevada  AZ:  Arizona.

Four of us from GoneMoab had such a great time there we put this together, actually had a few sponsors contribute for a campfire raffle, with proceeds going to the Tread Lightly Foundation.

You can learn more about it here:  www.canvaz.org

One more from the Broken Arrow Trail:
