01 Xterra Rough Idle-SES Light on----Looking for a shop????

Hello Ya'll

I'm looking for a trusted shop to take my 01 Xterra that has a rough idle with a SES light on.   
Auto,100k miles,2WD,V6.

I was going to ask what area you are in, but I'm guessing you are in the 310 area code vicinity.  I am not familiar with that area.  With 100k on it, have you replaced the timing belt yet?  If not, now is definitely the time to get that done.

I see you are 310 but if you can make it up to Valencia, Big John's is the place to go. I also have 01 Xterra 4WD V6 with 216,050 miles on it and I take my X there for any work I need done. Very reliable and very fair on the prices.

  nice 216k .....my pathy had 293K my 280 had 486k.

another thing to try which is quick and cheap is the seafoam treatment. You take off one of the vaccumn lines and let it suck in some sea foam. It clean the throttle body and some other vital parts. It will smoke like a crack house but it does work. Pour the rest in the tank. I dont remeber exactly which one so go to the new X forum and read the post.

 Or  It can be as simple as bad gas. 

The reconmended interval  for gen 1 is 110K  so I doubt it is this.

I was having issues with my ABS going off and tried everything I knew how to do, thinking it was a bad rotor, pad, bearing, etc.  Change everything out and I was still having the same issue.  I took it to Bill who is the owner/mechanic over at AAMCO in Whittier he spent about an hour with me doing a driving test with monitor/scanner hocked up to my system and answered all the questions I could throw at him.  Turned out there was just a bunch of junk on one of the sensors that was triggering the ABS to go off.  He cleaned it all up and didn't even charge me.  It is hard to find customer service like this and he has my business for sure.

If you're somewhat mechanically inclined, first buy the basic OBD-II code scanner ($60.00), it will tell you exactly what is wrong with it.  Xterras have over 100 possible codes as well as any pending sensor status.  Any mechanic will charge you $60-80 to check it for you anyways.  That way, you're not guessing.   If there is a code.  You can look it up in the repair manual or type in "Xterra code _____" on your phone's basic internet search.
